Magnitude 5.1 earthquake 40km east of Turangi

A magnitude 5.1 earthquake was widely felt in the Central North Island and Hawkes Bay today at 12.46pm.  The epicentre for the earthquake was located 40km east of Turangi.

The effects of this earthquake were strongly felt in Onekawa and Pirimai.  Within the Waikato region ground shaking reports indicate that people felt the earthquake as far away as Acacia Bay, Two Mile Bay, Taupo, Rotokawa and Reporoa.  There are currently no reports of any damage at this stage.
